REVIEWR is now completely free, and the scoring engine was rebuilt
Critiques are free with a fresh batch of credits every day, the scoring engine now weights categories by genre, and the Journey and Discover pages were rebuilt from scratch.
Free daily critiques, no signup gate
Every account now gets a fresh pool of critique credits each day at midnight UTC. There are no weekly limits, no hidden costs and no card required. Entering a quest costs nothing at all, so daily and weekly challenges are open to everyone.
First-time visitors no longer hit a signup wall on the free preview either. You can upload a photo, read the full critique, and only create an account when you want to keep your history.
A rebuilt scoring engine
Every critique is scored across six categories: Composition, Lighting, Creativity, Color & Tone, Story & Mood, and Technical Execution. The default weighting looks like this:
- Composition, 20%
- Lighting, 20%
- Creativity, 20%
- Color & Tone, 15%
- Story & Mood, 15%
- Technical Execution, 10%
Weights shift with your genre
Judging an astro shot the same way you would judge a street photo makes no sense, so the engine adjusts the weighting per genre:
- Street leans hard on Story & Mood at 29% and eases off Technical at 8%
- Astro puts Technical Execution at 30%, because focus, noise and tracking are the craft
- Portrait raises Lighting to 25%
- Architecture and aerial weight Composition highest, at 28% and 30%
- Abstract splits its weight between Composition and Creativity, 28% each
Honest separation between scores
Each category is graded against fixed anchor descriptors instead of a loose impression. That reduces the halo effect, where one strong element drags the whole score up with it. In practice you should see fewer photos clustering around the same middling number, and a clearer gap between a good shot and a great one.
Your Journey page is a real system now
The Journey page used to be a light add-on. It is now the place to track long-term progress:
- An achievement system with proper tiers and rewards
- Streak tracking
- Quest history and upcoming quests
- A score trend so you can see whether you are actually improving
Discover works properly
- The Popular feed was replaced with a Best feed, ranked by score
- Search and filters now return what you asked for
- The filter panel remembers how you left it
- A responsive masonry grid that behaves on every screen size
Speed and stability
The app loads noticeably faster, especially on mobile, after moving to self-hosted fonts, responsive image sources and a lighter initial bundle.
A batch of reported bugs is also fixed: critiques getting stuck on "analyzing", the primary genre field on your profile overwriting itself, and credit totals that did not add up.
What comes next
REVIEWR stays free while the experience keeps getting refined. Paid features may return later as optional upgrades, but the core critique will always have a generous free path.
