Color & Tone — 15% of your score

Colour & tone: the mood layer

Colour and tone carry 15%. This is where most edits go wrong: the photo is fine and then the grade fights it.

What REVIEWR grades here

  • Colour harmony and whether the palette is intentional
  • White balance accuracy, or a deliberate, consistent shift
  • Saturation discipline, especially in skin and sky
  • Tonal curve and how it separates subject from background

What strong work looks like

  • A limited palette you could describe in two or three words
  • Skin tones read as skin at any zoom level
  • Blacks and whites land where you intended them, not where the preset put them

What costs you points

  • Global saturation raised to rescue a dull frame
  • Heavy teal-and-orange applied to a scene that has neither
  • Crushed blacks that swallow the subject's detail

This week's drill

Take one edited photo and remake the edit in black and white. If it gets stronger, the original problem was composition or light — not colour. Fix that first, then re-add colour.
